Was the son of Bhai Pahu Singh and Mai Bhan Kaur of Nizampur village,
in Amritsar district. The family migrated to Nizampur Deva Singhvala
in Sheikhupura district (now in Pakistan). Bhai Panjab Singh had
a younger brother, Na-rain Singh by name. Both were hardworking
husbandmen, deeply religious. On 19 February 1921, Narain Singh
had left home to join the corps of volunteers to have the holy shrines
at Nankana Sahib liberated. When Panjab Singh learnt this he ran
after him to offer himself as a volunteer. Both brothers fell martyrs
in the indiscriminate firing which greeted them upon arrival at
Gurdwara Janam Asthan, Sri Nankana Sahib, on the morning of 20 February
1921.
