Khushal Singh, Babu

One of the Nankana Sahib Martyrs (1889-1921)


Was born on 5 Chet 1945 Bk/17 March 1889, the son of Bhai Buddh Singh. He learnt to read Gurmukhi in the village gurdwara and received the rites of Khalsa initiation. He was one of the 15 Akali volunteers from his village who, joining the jatha of Bhai Lachhman Singh of Dharovali, laid down their lives on 20 February 1921 in an effort to free Gurdwara janam Asthan from the control of its dissolute custodian, Mahant Narain Das.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee settled upon the family pension at Rs 107 per annum besides discharging its debt of Rs 1300.
