The Army Championships
The Sphere - [top] "A
Sikh Member in the Black Sea Army Team Throwing the Weight."
The Black Sea amry team have come to England to compete
in the Army Championships at Aldershot, at which place they
are now training. The man in the picture is a Sikh. His
long hair is fastened up in a manner which gives him a distinctive
appearance. [bottom] "Starting for a Practice Sprint."
With the exception of one man - the third from the left
- the runners are all Sikhs, as their pecuilar style of
hairdressing denotes. They are Indian soldiers from the
contingent serving in the amry of occupation in the nighbourhood
of the Black Sea. There districts will be occupied until
after the conclusion of peace with Turkey. These Sikhs are
training for the championships at Aldershot, and are fine
athletic specimens of a warlike race. 30/08/1919
