Indian Officers
and Men, 1884
At this time the Indian
officers wear the Sam Browne belt and not the pouchbelt.
This looks like a winter uniform because the collar and
cuffs are of astrakan. The kurta itself is yellow without
the black cloth down the front that came later, only thin
gold braid and red piping either side of the buttons. There
are no badges of rank on the shoulder chains, only a gilt
1 and BC monogram. The same badge appears in silver on the
beltplate. The cummerbund is red with yellow and black stripes.
The turban is also red with gold and black stripes and a
gold kullah. Puttees are worn instead of boots. The figure
with a white turban and glasses sitting on the right is
the regimental clerk.
