11th Bengal Lancers
'Probyn's Horse' - Officer Group, 1863
This is how one might
imagine men of an irregular cavalry regiment to look. No-one
seems to be wearing a uniform as such and they are informally
posed. Probyn himself is seated slightly left of centre
looking down. He and the British officer lying in the front
have full dress pouchbelts with chain decoration on the
edges. The others have plain pouchbelts. The turbans are
of all patterns and shapes. Some wear blue kurtas and some
wear long kaftans. The young boy seated at the front is
probably the same as the one in Indian Officers 1863.
