Queen's Own Corps
of Guides (Punjab Frontier Force) - Group Photo, c1903
A group photo of cavalry
and infantry other ranks and officers. The cavalry wear
a Sam Browne belt under their pouchbelt and chain-mail epaulettes..
The other ranks wear dark puttees while the officers wear
black boots. The infantrymen all wear khaki puttees. The
differing turbans denote race, the stripes being basically
blue and white. At the top of the picture a Sikh sowar of
cavalry stands between a lance naik and a sepoy of infantry.
The sowar carries a lance. The infantry wear the drab coloured
tunic with red collar and cuffs, later replaced by the long
kurta with red piping. Note the cuff ornamentation of the
two cavalry officers seated on chairs. All ranks in this
photo have been awarded the Indian Order of Merit.
