The 15th Sikhs
meeting the rush of Afridis
The Graphic - "After
his succesful expedition in the Auran Valley General Kempster
retired into camp at Maidan on Nov 15. The tropps descended
the hill which divides the Auran from the Tirah Valleys
in alternate compaines, whiile two companies of the 15th
Sikhs held the ridge against the tribesmen, who were then
collecting in threatening numbers. Suddenly the two covering
compaines were attacked by the Afridi Ghaszis in great force
and with such determination that the engagement speedily
resolved itself into a fierce fight at close quarters. The
Sikhs fought splendidly. By firing volleys in compaines
they not only succeeded in holding their position, but drove
the enemy back with heavy loss." 18/12/1987
