Sweeping the Valleys
of the turbulent Afridis - Scenes among the frontier
"Jamrud Fort - A
Busy Scene when an Expedition is going on. Jamrd Fort is
1,670 ft. above sea-level. Describing the Khyber Pass, Mr
Eustace Reynolds Ball in "The Tourist's India"
states that is can only be reached on the open days - Tuesdays
and fridays - when it is guarded and patrolled by the Kyber
Rifles. A permit must be obtained from the political officer
at Peshawar, who will provide a soldier as escort. During
this trip the tourist will perhaps find the military restrictions
rather irksome, for every footstep is dogged by his escort."
